November Update

Dearest Friends of Greater Des Moines Supportive Housing,

Hello again! I’m excited to update you on what’s been happening behind the scenes these last couple of months!

As you might know, in August we made the decision to terminate our contract for the Valley West Inn site in West Des Moines. Our #DreamBoard and #DreamTeam huddled up to reflect on what this meant for the future of Greater Des Moines Supportive Housing. We considered the growing need for affordable and supportive housing in Central Iowa; we acknowledged our passion and determination to make this happen; we celebrated how far we’ve come in just one year… and we decided that we’re more committed than ever! We are moving forward with the same goal, just a different strategy.

In our silence we have been hard at work… we never stopped. We have been planning next steps and raising money to keep this dream alive. We reached out to some of the people who have believed in this cause and this team from its inception to ask for their support… our very first campaign. We are humbled and ecstatic to share that 23 supporters contributed $61,550! This generosity has created true momentum in so many ways. It is a testament from each of these individuals that they get it and they’re all in.  It also gives us the runway to plan ahead. Thank you just doesn’t begin to be big enough… but THANK YOU to each one of you who is surrounding us with this support. This past year has brought many hearts and hands together who all have a shared dream.

I am only because you are. And this project is only moving forward because we are doing it together.

With gratitude,

Emily Osweiler, MSW
CEO, Greater Des Moines Supportive Housing
