We’re thrilled to share an update on our progress towards creating permanent supportive housing in Des Moines. GDMSH has signed an option on the Holiday Inn Downtown on 6th Avenue, with the goal of closing within 60 days after January 31, 2025.
This is a significant milestone for our organization, and we’re excited about the potential of this landmark location to serve our community. However, we also want to be transparent about the work that lies ahead.
Between now and January 31st, we’ll be focused on:
- Pre-development: Conducting due diligence, design, environmental studies, and more to assess the feasibility of the project.
- Funding: Securing funding through a combination of federal, state, county, city, and private sources.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with prospective neighbors, residents, organizations, and potential partners to gather feedback and build support.
We are also grateful to the City of Des Moines for naming us as a partner in a HUD CoC Builds grant application and to Homeward for their leadership and support in making this opportunity possible. If awarded, the grant would provide critical funding for the development of permanent supportive housing.
We understand there will be questions about the timeline and number of units. We’re still in the early stages of due diligence and are unable to provide specifics at this time. We anticipate being able to share more information as the project progresses.
Thank you for your continued support of GDMSH. We’re committed to keeping you informed as we work to provide safe, affordable housing for those in need.
