Practical answers about who supportive housing serves, how it stays safe, and what life at Starling and Solstice will include.

Who will live there?

People will choose to live with us for a continuum of reasons. We will be home to some of our community's most vulnerable neighbors, people who have experienced long-term homelessness or who live with mental health needs, and to people facing housing barriers, including those carrying a financial burden who need workforce housing, and everywhere in between.

Every apartment is a single-occupancy studio, and a resident must be 18 or older to sign a lease. Residents come from different backgrounds and have different ages, education levels, and reasons for renting an apartment. For example:

  • Unexpected job loss
  • Extremely low income or poor credit
  • Brain injury
  • Aging out of foster care
  • Illness or special needs
  • Veterans with disabilities
  • Older adults on a fixed income

The truth is that many of us know someone who is one event away from eviction or foreclosure.

Homelessness is traumatic and can make mental illness or other challenges worse. We believe homelessness prevention and recovery is possible with access to a safe, clean place to live and on-site support with services such as case management.

Is supportive housing safe?

The safety of residents, staff, and the surrounding community is of the highest priority. Both campuses have a secured entrance and 24/7 on-site staffing.

A Code of Conduct is signed as part of the lease agreement and will be strictly enforced:

A dry campus, with no loitering

No outside guests in the apartment building

Zero tolerance for drugs, fighting, and weapons

Every applicant also completes a background check as part of the application process.

What is included in each unit?

Every home is a fully furnished studio apartment with a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and dedicated living and sleeping space.

Beyond each front door, both campuses include community and recreation spaces, a fitness center, a media center, classrooms, a pantry stocked with food, clothing, and household items, a commercial kitchen and dining space, and outdoor green space. On-site support includes case management, counseling, and life-skills programming, with controlled building access and 24-hour staffing.
